Täytyypä todeta, että traditionalistien vainoaminen yhdistää kristillisiä kirkkoja yhtä paljon kuin yhteinen kaste ja usko jonkinlaiseen triplajumaluuteen (luoja-pyhittäjä-äitiin vai mikä se nyt olikaan...). Vitsikästä on, että vastaavanlainen tilanne oli Lontoossa kardinaali Castrillonin viettäessä vanhaa messua. Kukaan Lontoon katolisista piispoista ei suostunut tulemaan messuun, koska heillä oli "muita kiireitä". Tästä väitetään paavin ottaneen nokkiinsa. (http://www.kreuz.net/article.7405.html)

I'm not sure all hope is lost concerning SSPX, and I remain hopeful that the Holy Ghost will move them to make the right decision. I think it's fair to say that Bp. Williamson represents the more extreme wing of the society, whereas this offer is made to Bp. Fellay. The deadline isn't until Monday. I'm still praying.
You're more of an optimist, Paul! :) One possibility would be the "divide et impera": the SSPX is internally divided and some of them might accept the reconciliation. They haven't understood that they can be faithful to the Pope and at the same time continue the attack against the Modernistists inside the Church. It might even be more effective! They could e.g. occupy important posts in the Church and have great influence on the future development.
Bp. Williamson in English:
"However, when in the next few days the Society makes no gesture towards Rome sufficient for Rome's purpose of dissolving the resistance of Catholic Tradition, I am for my part not at all sure that Rome will really go ahead with any declaration of formal schism. Maybe after eight, or 20, or 38 years of the Society's resistance they really are losing patience, but does not all past experience tell them that each time they use the stick, it stiffens rather than dissolves that resistance?
And if they did go ahead with such a declaration [of schism], Catholics should rejoice, because after several years of some ambiguity there would once more be some clarity ! Twenty years ago, all Society Superiors gathered in Econe rejoiced in their bishops' "excommunication". Would not the same thing happen this time round if Rome also cast priests and laity into its outer darkness ? Not that any of us would rejoice in Rome's self-abasement."

Really sad. Bp. Williamson and other lefebrites who share his opinion are not the first and not certainly the last schismatics who have been convinced that their schismatic sect is the true Catholic Church. They kind of resemble 4th century donatists. But where are the donatists now? It is a small wonder if SSPX, SSPV etc. live that 8, 20, or 38 years. Donatist survived at least some 400 years.
